After a first round interview on campus, I was offered the opportunity to join ~20 other interviewees for a second round interview onsite. We all flew out on Tuesday afternoon and met at a hotel in Little Rock. That evening we spent about 8 hours learning about the different segments of Schlumberger through group presentations we had prepared beforehand, and presentations from the recruiters. There were also group activities such as a design challenge and basic group bonding activities (introduce yourself, sing your favorite song, do a dance, etc).
The next morning we visited a drilling site, where we got to talk to a current D&M field engineer and see the equipment they use in the field. We then visited the central facility in Little Rock, saw more machinery and some testing labs, and got to speak with more field engineers. After returning back to the hotel, we had one-on-one exit interviews. I expressed interest in a program in a different part of Schlumberger's organization, and had my resume passed along.
The onsite interview is not competitive between interviewees, Schlumberger is a big company and we are not competing for the same positions. Schlumberger ran the process really well, and it was clear that the point was for the interviewees to determine for themselves if this is the work they want. They do not hide anything and strive for honest, open dialogue.
