      Technical Writer Interview

      Jul 10, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Scottsdale, AZ
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at STChealth (Scottsdale, AZ) in Sep 2016

      Interview

STC took a long time to respond to the application. However, when they did respond, they set up a phone interview with the HR Department. After the phone interview, they passed the notes from the interview along to the department for which you would be interviewing. From there, I had an in-person interview. The interview was brief. The person interviewing me hadn't even worked at the company for longer than a year and admitted he didn't know much about being there. They talked to me in a condescending tone and kept reiterating that it was a technical writing position and asking if I knew what that meant, even though by my resume it was evident that I had technical writing experience. They said if I got the position, I would be working with someone who also hadn't been there for longer than a year. Additionally, they mentioned that nobody at that location had worked there for longer than a year, which was extremely concerning to me. Extreme turnover rate much? After the interview, they said that they would contact me regardless of whether or not I was chosen. I never heard from them again, which is fine because I wouldn't want to work in a place that can't keep employees there for a long period of time.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

One of the questions they asked was how I felt that I could contribute to the workplace.

We appreciate the feedback regarding your interview for a technical writing opportunity, for which we last interviewed in May of 2016. A positive interview experience is very important to us regardless of the result, and we extend apologies if our attempts to clarify your career interests and our phone message to follow-up on the final determination of the interview were not interpreted favorably. It is unfortunate that you left with the impression that our company had high turnover, as it is quite the contrary. We were very fortunate last year to experience rapid growth, increasing our staff by 21% in the first half of the year while our turnover was a low 8%. The newness of many of our employees at that time, including the technical writing team which was officially established in January of 2016, was a result of hiring for newly created positions rather than turnover.
