The interview process was awful for me, for the very first time in my career. I fully admit that I was not completely prepared, and this was my first interview since the start of the pandemic. I was a bit starved for conversation, to say the least.
My interviewers sat motionless and expressionless throughout our meeting. Neither cracked a smile the entire time. They just occasionally sent each other knowing looks between them, to signify that I definitely wasn't getting the job. Instead of stopping me at any point, as I prattled on, they let me talk indefinitely, letting the interview drag on forever.
I'm generally the queen of the interview, but on this day, I was a pointless "chatty cathy."
I wish they had been even a little bit friendly and understanding. And I sincerely wish that they had just checked their watches one time! Any signal to stop would have been helpful. I actually felt it necessary to send an apology note afterward, for wasting so much of their time. I really think, however, that it would have been more sensible and compassionate of them to intervene.
