      IT Senior Business Analyst Interview

      Aug 16, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Seer

      Interview

Came in through external recruiter. Interviewed with the hiring manager who was a very competent and qualified person. Interviewed with their IT Manager, followed by an interview with an internal recruiter. The interview with their HR person was heavily focused on the fact that I'd be remote, even though the job was presented to me as remote with travel, I said I'd be open to relocation, but wanted more time to evaluate the details of that if there was an offer. Also seemed that my lack of college degree was an issue, despite being self taught in the tech field. Overall just a strange interview, felt that the purpose of this interview was not to get to know me or my value, but to rule me out. Had 4 more interviews for a total of 7 with various operational roles that went well and were fairly straightforward. Great group of people that mostly come from other biotech companies, mainly Illumina. They ended up going with another candidate supposedly due to their background with lab experience. That candidate was subsequently rejected by the CEO for not being technical enough - at least, that's what I heard. I was asked to come back in for two final interviews, one with the CPO (Chief People Officer) and one with the CFO. Again, the interview with the CPO felt a bit misaligned with most of the prior interviews because such a heavy emphasis was placed on being in the office. Again I explained I'd be open to relocation under the right circumstances, but that didn't seem to be enough to placate. Interview with CFO seemed to go well and though he asked some more critical questions, nothing seemed out of place. After 9 interviews I was rejected with feedback for not knowing enough about the company (for mispronouncing proteomics with the CPO) despite 20 pages of notes I gathered on the company and the proteomics market... as well as my "unwillingness" to relocate. They didn't choose anyone else... After that mess of an interview process, I'm glad I was passed on.

Thank you for your feedback on the Seer interview process. We appreciate the time you took away from your work and personal life to complete several rounds of interviews with us. After much effort on your part, we recognize that not being selected is extremely disappointing. It also sounds like you received some very pointed feedback about your interview preparation from our external recruitment partners. We take full responsibility for that exchange. We will be sure to follow up to make sure the candidate experience is always positive regardless of the outcome.
