      User Experience Developer Interview

      Oct 23, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Denver, CO
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at ShapeShift (Denver, CO) in Oct 2019

      Interview

This was the worst interview process I've ever had for job in my life. First of all a UX developer is a made up role that doesn't really exist. What they wanted was someone who was a great designer and could also develop. I made the mistake of biting on a job where the company didn't fully define it or know what it was themselves. Knowing this and having engineering tests in hand, which I passed as a UX Designer, they proceeded to drag me through a 3 month interview process geared towards a UX Designer with multiple phone calls, interviews and the same questions over and over from the same people. This whole charade went on for 3 months for them only to tell me that while they loved my UX and Design experience they were going to move forward with someone who was a great at engineering for a UX role. Their feedback did not match up to their actual thoughts and opinions. They wasted 3 months of my time on this stupid game they are playing with people's jobs without even knowing what they are doing. The person who called me to tell me I didn't get the job actually had the nerve to ask me how the interviews went the previous week. ShapeShift actually harmed my job search by giving me the illusion I was a contender for a job I had no chance of getting, even though more than qualified, because they did not define it correctly. Don't waste time interviewing here and make that mistake. Just move on to a more organized company. I'd never consider this company ever again.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked me a bunch of questions about design process and not really much about engineering. Overall it was very confusing as to what they needed. However, I passed their engineering test for this UX role with flying colors.

Thank you for the feedback! We really do appreciate any feedback that helps us improve our recruiting process. You are correct, the UI/UX Developer position is a new role for us here at ShapeShift. As with many Startups change is inevitable and we are learning every day. Thank you for taking the time to interview with us and for taking the time to write a review.
