After the initial screen, I came into the office for a longer in-person interview. Surprisingly, the founder and CEO made time to speak with me first, which gave me a great opportunity to ask questions and learn about the business from a holistic perspective. Next, I met with the Director, where we went over standard interview questions. Finally, I met the rest of the team very informally. Every person I spoke with was very informative and open, as they truly seemed to be interested in my opinions and experience. They appeared to be very invested in finding the right fit for the role, which is very important for building a strong team. I felt respected by everyone I was able to speak with, and was able to make a clear determination based on a mutual understanding of the right fit. Too many companies these days make the mistake of having the interview be a one-sided inquisition, leading to an intimidating and less effective interaction. SMB facilitated open dialogue and allowed me to be conversationally equal, which allowed me to truly determine whether I could be a good fit for them. In the end, the timing was unfortunately off for me, but I fully recommend this company and the outlook they have for the future.
