      Support Engineer Interview

      Jan 7, 2025
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Sourcegraph in Dec 2024

      Interview

Across two weeks, I completed several 30 minute interviews and a two-hour "take-home" technical evaluation. Each interview was conducted by employees from different roles and was intended to evaluate different aspects of my experience and suitability. The technical evaluation involved setting up, troubleshooting, and providing written response to simulated customer-scenarios. The recruitment team communicated frequently throughout the process. I was provided with instructions and documentation which accurately described each process and outlined expectations of the candidate.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Q: Has there been a project you took on that involved technologies with which you were unfamiliar? What did you find challenging and how did you overcome the gap in knowledge?

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Sourcegraph (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

They missed our first scheduled time, so I sat waiting for a a half hour After the interview actually happened- they ghosted me and continued to repost the job opp on LinkedIn without ever even telling me if they were going to be moving forward with me or not. As a strong candidate for that job, it was disrespectful to ghost me. They could easily automate an email for cases like this.

      Interview

The process was described directly in their playbook. Started with a phone screen, had a meeting with the hiring manager, take-home assignment, peer review, and then a final panel with reference checks.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Take-home assignment with some Linux command questions, a practice customer question/response, and a larger technical problem where you have to find out why an app is broken
