      Staff Accountant Interview

      Jul 31, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at TTD Tax (Chicago, IL) in Aug 2018

      Interview

The interview is with a Chicago, IL firm called The Tax Defenders. Glassdoor lists them as TTD Tax. The process started with an online submission, followed by a long phone interview, and finally an in-person interview. The difficultly started with the in-person interview. They demanded a 9:00 AM interview in downtown Chicago. I needed to drive in from where I was, so I asked if there were any other times available so that I could avoid the lengthy rush hour commute. They responded by saying all interview are only done first thing in the morning. They also did not have any parking or parking validation options available. I went in for the interview, and it started off with a very condescending interviewer who attacked everything that was on my resume and even got personal about my resume font, style, and even about how I was dressed, which was business professional. I followed-up after the interview to only be told that they had a stellar tax attorney candidate that they already wanted to hire. They said they just needed to go through the motions of conducting other interviews to show that they interviewed more than one person. I was not a tax attorney. I asked if any of the other applicants were tax attorneys, and they said no. I asked why they even bothered wasting other people's time and money to interview for a job that would never be available to them. Their response was to say that they needed to go through the formalities, and that's the breaks. Initially, I was really disappointed by this company and their interview process. However, seeing how they treat applicants, I think this turned out for the best. The interviewer even made some snide comments about past and present employees. I have no idea who the people were that he was talking about, but it came across as very petty and that he had the expectation that the company comes above all else. That final part came across as an extreme, since he had mentioned that he expects nothing but 100% loyalty. It was bizarre, but it definitely made an impression, a bad one.
