      Data Analyst Interview

      Jun 27, 2026
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Cheadle, North West England, England
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at UK Biobank (Cheadle, North West England, England) in May 2026

      Interview

There were 5 steps in this application process: 1) an initial online application 2) a technical assessment using CoderPad, 3) an initial telephone interview with a member of the Talent Acquisition Team, 4) An online interview with members of the team regarding your technical assessment, 5) An in-person interview with a panel of 3 senior members of the team. I'm glad to confirm that the timed element of the CoderPad assessment that has been flagged before on Glassdoor as potentially exclusive to some candidates has now been removed, which I must credit UK Biobank for. For my process, the assessment was open for 2 weeks, which meant that I was able to return to it as often as required. It made for an enjoyable experience, and the interview afterwards to discuss it was very relaxed. For my initial interview, I spoke to Kate, who did a brilliant job answering my queries, and is clearly very passionate about the organisation. I definitely overprepared for this as it was a simple screening interview - general questions such as "tell me about yourself", "what do you know about UK Biobank" and logistics questions. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by some aspects of the in-person interview experience. After making considerable effort to attend, including travelling quite a long way and staying overnight, I was surprised to find that one of the panel was remoting in from a location very close to where I live. I had been patient and flexible throughout a two month process, and felt that the same courtesy hadn't been extended. On arrival, nobody was there to meet me, and it was only by luck that an employee had seen me. The interview room hadn't been arranged when I was eventually met, and we started late. Overall, it felt like my interview had been forgotten about. I was also not shown around as I had been told I would be, which was one of my key reasons for travelling. It was a disappointing conclusion to a lengthy process, but if you are a future candidate, don't let this put you off. UK Biobank has a fantastic team at the heart of it, but I would strongly advise long-distance candidates to clarify logistics in advance. For the UKB team: Managing expectations early before travel plans are made would go a long way to improving the candidate experience. Also, please update the signage in the building, lest another lost candidate wanders into your neighbour's office!
