      Finance Operations Manager Interview

      Jul 11, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Vable (London, England) in Jul 2024

      Interview

When an interview process involves numerous meetings and hours of your time for a bang average £45k-60k role – (below market rate and below my previous salary) - run in the opposite direction and don't look back. The onerous, time-consuming recruitment process at Vable first requires you to waste your precious time completing the "16personailities.com" questionnaire – a woo woo, snake oil, Myers–Briggs knock off which like MB is a pseudoscientific self-report questionnaire popular only with narcissists and navel gazers –( looking at you Vable). There then follows not one, not two, but THREE interviews AND you then have to research, compile and present a 30-minute presentation on what you will bring to the business in your first 6 months. To prepare for the presentation you are instructed to prepare questions to ask in interview 2 and to give your presentation in interview 3. Be warned though – when you attempt to ask the extensive questions you spent much time preparing to gather information for your presentation, every question to the founder Matthew will be met with derision and a “why don’t you tell me?” or “well that’s what we want you to tell us?” response. Example Question – can you tell me what strategic goals the business has for the next 12 months? Answer – well that’s for you to tell us, not for us to tell you. Question – I can see that you’ve achieved an ISO certification, is it a goal of the business to achieve further ISO’s? Answer – you tell me, what ISO’s do you think we should do. Question – do you have any environmental goals such as net zero or Bcorp? Answer – what do you think, do you think we should? Bearing in mind this was my single opportunity to fact find in order to create a presentation of what long and short term actions and goals I would achieve in the first 6 months – the attitude of the founder was bizarrely defensive and combative. Also in interview 2 I was asked 3 identical questions just phrased slightly differently………… “tell us about a time you had a financial problem to solve, how did you approach it and what was the outcome….. tell us about a about a time you had a problem in finance, how did you solve it and what was the resolution………… tell us about a time you encountered a difficulty whilst working in finance, what action did you take and what was the result” – on question 3 I actually rolled my eyes at the pointlessness of continuing with this dumpster fire of an interview and completely checked out. Wouldn't recommend wasting time interviewing with this company to anyone.
