      Rust Engineer Interview

      Sep 20, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Vaultree

      Interview

The first interview round was technical and it was fairly standard. No live coding, just a technical conversation, with some good in-depth questions and discussions. Everything was friendly and left a good impression on me. The final interview round was technical + behavioural conversation with one of the co-founders and a higher-up manager. It started well, with normal behavioral questions, e.g. about cross-team communication, about remote working experience, etc. Unfortunately, the other intreviewer conducted his part of the intreview in an extremely unprofessional and outright hostile manner. He immediately started picking on me, making ridiculous comments about my resume formatting, making presumptuous accusations that what I'm saying about my work experience "doesn't sound right" and asking inappropriate and irrelevant questions which had nothing to do with my professional experience or expertise. When I pointed out that this interview style is unacceptable, I was told that apparently it was done under the pretense of "making me uncomfortable in order to see how I would handle stressful situations". At no point in time was I warned or told that there will be such a "stress interview", not to mention the fact that interviews are very stressful and anxiety-inducing by themselves. I can only imagine why the management sees the need to push the stress level even further and for what working conditions exactly they are "testing". It reeks of bad management and unhealthy working environment. I've had enough bad interview experiences, but this was the most disrespectful and unprofessional by far, leaving a sour taste in my mouth.
