I was interviewed by someone in the company that was not in HR, nor in the design or sales department. At the time, I didn't know her position, as my school handled all communications prior to my interview. The interview was for a design AND sales hybrid intern position. I wasn't asked too many questions, as they saw my portfolio and felt that I would be fit for the position based on that and my basic knowledge of the industry.
Ultimately, I was not a design and sales intern, as they kept me only in sales. The worst part is that they were aware that I came explicitly from a design background, and I had previously expressed that I was interested in a design position.
I'm sure more clear-cut positions would have more transparency, but I would be wary of anyone getting an entry-level position at this company.
