Toronto, Spring of 2018- I came in and dropped off a resume, a very kind young woman interviewed me. She was impressed with my resume and offered me the assistant GM position, but I had to come in and talk to her boss.
The guy put me a little on edge. I flubbed a bit in the interview. He was very infantalizing to the lady who originally interviewed me, and to a lesser degree, to me (I am female). He asked me questions, and asked for references, I provided. The interview concluded, he called my references and asked me to call him. I called him and he said that he was going with someone else. I thanked him, then later, emailed him and asked him why if my references were good. He said that they did not cover the work that I would be doing. I asked him another question and he did not respond.
Toronto is a brutal job market, I am glad that I am no longer there. The pay would have been low ($40K) and if it were up to the initial lady who interviewed me, I would have been hired. She was terrific person, smart, lovely personality, and she and I would have made a great team and we would have complimented one another. Her boss, however, was clearly a bit misogynistic (not uncommon in this industry) and I would have been miserable having to deal with him, so it was for the best.
