Senior Manager Business Analytics and Enterprise Reporting Interview

      Mar 19, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Emeryville, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Vituity (Emeryville, CA) in Mar 2015

      Interview

Was told by the agency that they were in rush to fill the position- so overnight interview was requested with limited flexibility regarding dates/times. Interviewer was the Director, who wanted to know how to resolve some issues he had with data and reporting - see some of the questions below. I answered all the questions because I worked a lot to bring the solutions as a Consultant. Therefore the interview was easy for me. However at the very end I felt used - as if spent my time offering free consultative service. I was told that agency got the response (late yesterday evening?) that they decided to move with another candidate. Which is good as the Director changed job description during our conversation - it appeared that his Analysts know everything (just they did not have time to implement all the solutions and then basically they do need help (support), as they are very busy . And he basically did need someone for just reporting part (initial job description cited cross functional work) and then for ad hoc reports. There were some more questions, but I could not add them here using the button below. When I said initially I did not work with taxonomy as I did not understand the question, he appeared kind of pleased. At the very end I remembered that I actually did some reporting in the past using exactly the taxonomy pulling the queries and creating reports.

      Question 1

How would you proceed if you were hired - how would you spend your first three months? There is no documentation in the department and two Analyst, who are here for a long time 'have everything they learned in their heads'.

      Question 2

How would I resolve the issue with the data integrity when receiving the files with the data from the clients?

      Question 3

How would I validate the data for integrity of results?

      Question 4

How would you validate the data integrity for ad hoc requests?

      Question 5

There are a lot of reports scattered around sent by email, in folders etc. How would I resolve the issue? We are moving from one of the current reporting platforms, what would you implement as a new platform that would centralize reporting. Tableau, because it allows the user to connect to all data sources, which Click View can't do. Director told that it actually can (I used personal free version that did not have capability). So my final answer was ClickView together with Excel that can connect to the database.
