Interview process was very informal but also a bit of a shambles. First interview consisted of CEO and Lead dev, with a bit of a discussion around the company and asking about my history, but was clear there was no real structure or understanding of interviewing from CEO.
Second interview was a 2 part with the lead dev. I say through a simple 5 task JavaScript test, too test i understand logic. Interesting choice of testing method, especially for such a senior role that wouldn't realistically bee doing any coding. Second half of interview was a whiteboard session. Was a good discussion, and i feel i learned more about the senior dev and the company than he learned about me.
Third interview was an informal coffee with the CEO again. He just wanted to "get to know me" and asked questions about how i would handle managing someone out of the company.
The informal coffee ended with the CEO asking when i can start and shaking my hand and welcoming me onboard, saying he will get a letter of offer out over the next few days.
2 weeks passed with no word. The recruiter tried to chase, but was given excuses about discussions in the board meeting. And the CEO said that he made no verbal offer.
Im the end the feedback that was given to my recruiter was they are thinking of opening the role up in the USA. (Seems unlikely add the entite tech team is here in Melbourne Au).
Overall was a very unprofessional experience. In the long run, I'm happy everything feel through as i feel I've dodged a bullet not to be working with a dishonest, unprofessional CEO.
I think the tech team has a lot of potential under the right leadership, especially the lead dev, who has done an amazing job in 2 years, but fear he might burn out without the right leadership and team support.
