      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Whop in Sep 2024

      Interview

TL;DR: I had 2 interviews before I "noped" out. Red flags everywhere. Avoid this company! First interview was with the recruiter and she was wonderful. We had a great rapport and she gave me tips to prepare for the interview with the CTO. We scheduled my next interview and everything was great so far. On the day of the CTO interview, it was abruptly rescheduled to the following week and the meeting time was reduced from ~45 minutes to 15 minutes. Scheduling is difficult, I was understanding and flexible. The meeting time reduction was weird but I've seen it before. The CTO never showed up for the rescheduled interview and I reached out the recruiter. They apologized and we pushed it an hour later. Then the wheels came off. The interview started off poorly and did not get better. The CTO/Co-Founder only spoke in startup buzzwords and was extraordinarily haughty and disinterested. Without discussing the company at all, he dove into asking me how I would "raise the bar" at the company; I immediately saw this was not going to go well. I clapped back asking him what that actually means and he regurgitated pretentious phrases like "product mindset" and "iterative excellence". Nonsense. When asked about what he learned in his previous founder roles he said "value of hard work". Again, nonsense - none of his answers were satisfying. Not to mention he was rude, condescending, and unprofessional. He constantly spoke over me, gave me the "yeah yeah yeah" to show he wasn't interested in letting me finish my answer, couldn't hide his obvious facial expressions, and seemed annoyed that he was even on the call. Why waste both our time then? One question that really sent the red flag waving high was "what do you do on the weekends?" Frankly, it's none of your business. This co-founder wants you to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and dedicate your entire waking life to his company while describing it in the most banal terms imaginable. We both agreed this wasn't a good fit but honestly... who exactly is this role a good fit for? If this is how the initial interview went, imagine working for these people. I strongly recommend avoiding this company. This is the ridiculously long hiring process the recruiter laid out (8 interviews minimum): 1. Recruiter Call 2. CTO Video Call 3. Portfolio Review 4. System Design (Multiple) 5. Behavioral Interviews (Multiple) 6. Paired Code Review
