      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Xandr (Portland, OR) in Apr 2021

      Interview

There had been rumors of Xandr being sold off but can confirm they are still being put to use @ at&t. Unfortunately, they seem to be a bit disorganized and unprepared, in my opinion. They are currently running on old php based systems with some c# as well. Looking to transition to newer tech. So I was contacted by two recruiters for the same position but interviewed with 3 different people. One was with the senior manager and the other was with another set of managers (who were not as open about what they were doing or at least came off as uninformed). with the 2 initial managers, I was told to complete a gilded rose project. So I did, perfectly. Come the time to review, only one knew what was going on. The other admitted he had only reviewed the code 10 minutes prior to the interview (was told to turn it in a day in advance to give them time). Which was pretty unprofessional. He seemed like he was winging the entire thing, honestly. Came off as uninterested in the process, and I believe he is probably the reason why they didn't move forward with me. As I completed everything. The way he evaluated the code as well, was insufficient. He assumed I had placed ";" in the code when the original code just came like that. And our instructions were to not modify the code (so I was following the rules). He just wasn't present at all. My code worked perfectly fine and refactored accordingly. He brought up issues like how would i create an alternative route to an object (as in using a literal object as opposed to a class). Which didn't make sense since the project was class-based, where you can't modify or not use the class. Anyway, i never get feedback after the review. At that point they both seemed uninterested. Waste of time. I then get another call from another recruiter for the same position, apparently. But this time I meet with the senior manager and he knew his stuff. Explained what they were actually doing and we hit it off well. Said he'd let me know how they would proceed but instead I was told they would not move forward. I'm assuming because the other managers had stepped in (the ones that didn't provide any feedback and ghosted me). I appreciated that the recruiter at least got back to me So basically I did everything they asked of me, and I'm qualified for their tech stack (react and node, it's my expertise), but they just passed. I'm assuming that one other manager had already made up his mind and they were just going through the motions, maybe just to make sure they are interviewing minorities for the roles or something. Either way, very disorganized and left me with the impression of some weird politics are at play. What former employees have stated may be true: that xandr after the at&t acquisition has lost all its brightest and the people who had still been fun to work with. their c# implemented software products sounds interesting though.
