I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Zoom Communications (New York, NY) in Jan 2022
Interview
Recruiter talked promptly, two questions were asked for online assessment, one leetcode easy and one medium.
Allowed to Google needed functions such as how to convert to string, and had share screen with interviewer.
Interview process took 6 weeks. Overall process 10 weeks. 4 weeks until screening call, 2 weeks till 2nd round interview. 4 weeks for a final decision. This definitely felt like a ghost job, sending over a five page SQL assessment made by AI and then not going over 90% of it during the interview (30 minute interview to go over 11 pages of SQL). Received a generic rejection with “needs did not align”. Highly unprofessional with 7 recruiters involved and no intention to hire but to use people.
I interviewed at Zoom Communications (London, England)
Interview
I applied through the company careers page and received an email from a recruiter about 5 days later inviting me to an initial screening.
Interview Process:
The process consisted of three stages:
1. Recruiter Screening (30 mins):
A casual phone/Zoom call discussing my previous customer service experience, availability, and why I wanted to work for Zoom Video Communications. The recruiter also explained the role expectations and shift patterns.
2. Hiring Manager Interview (45 mins):
Conducted over Zoom. Focused on behavioral questions and situational scenarios. They were particularly interested in how I handle difficult customers and multitasking.
3. Final Interview / Mock Scenario (45–60 mins):
This included a role-play exercise where I had to respond to a frustrated customer experiencing technical issues with video calls. I was evaluated on communication, empathy, and problem-solving.
I interviewed with Zoom for a Data Developer job. The process iinvolved: an initial HR screening followed by three technical rounds, including an in-person/on-site interview.
I successfully completed all technical rounds, with the assessments producing correct results and discussions going as expected. Despite this, the feedback shared after the final round was that I “did not seem interested in the role,” which was difficult to comprehend with the effort invested throughout the process, including attending the onsite interview.
There was also a significant delay in communication. An initial indication was given that an update would be shared within a few days, but the final outcome was communicated 4-5 weeks later, stating that another candidate had been selected despite clearing all rounds.
The combination of contradictory feedback and delayed communication made the overall experience frustrating and confusing.
Advice to Management:
Ensure that evaluation criteria are applied consistently and that feedback shared with candidates accurately reflects their interview performance. Timely and transparent communication would significantly improve the experience.
