      Information Security Auditor Interview

      Feb 24, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at bet365 (London, England) in Feb 2022

      Interview

Such a weird experience. I was set up with an initial phone interview. The interviewer was a bit chaotic and didn't come across as very professional. The interviewer provided an overview of the company, business development direction and team members, as well as a light overview of BAU work. The interviewer advised this was an informal phone chat, that this was not a stage of being quote "quizzed" on experience, and was just about getting to know me at this stage. The interviewer then asked me to speak on myself, which I did broadly, including high level details on my relevant roles, for around 8-10 minutes. The next day I was advised they were not proceeding with me, due to wanting someone for the role who could speak more in-depth on a specific topic. I found that extremely amusing, since I was the sole person managing said responsibility at my previous company, for a period of 18 months and I am well versed. The topic was touched on during the call, in acknowledgement of it being a relevant part of the role, but was not discussed in granular detail, due to the direction of the call being communicated as a brief and informal chat, with no interview structure or 'quizzing' around experience. No further questioning to clarify experience in the area was ever prompted by the interviewer either. I was surprised by how informal and short the call was, considering the setup provided by the recruiter. I'm not sure that the manager involved in interviewing had the skills to obtain the information required from potential candidates. The interviewer mentioned at the end of the call that they had been taking notes for their boss, but that they hadn't been able to keep up very well - however they did not mention this until the end of the call. I'd been under the impression I was speaking to a subject matter expert able to have an autonomous conversation, not someone simply taking notes, who might miss something when communicating this back to their boss.
