The process was a lot more casual and laid back from my experiences in other places but was a lot of fun and the people there are super nice. They make you feel comfortable.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at john st. (Toronto, ON) in Nov 2020
Interview
Interviewed with GAD and Exec on separate calls within a few weeks of each other. First was very friendly and conversational. The second interview with Exec was mostly skill-based questions pertaining to the role.
I like john st. as an agency they're known for doing good work, but overall pretty disappointed that there was no update given from HR or the person I interviewed with. Even after they said they would get back to me on a few questions I had and then following up with them a few weeks later... complete radio silence from them.
During COVID one would hope companies would have a bit more 'humanity' or just common courtesy to follow-up with potential applicants. A straightforward, we went with another applicant or you weren't = would have been appreciated. I hope as leaders in the industry they lead by example and do better.

Interview
After a brief phone interview, I interviewed with Hiring Manager and one of the two bosses I would be working under. Everything felt cordial and very friendly. Felt I was pretty qualified and comfortable - then the boss asked if she could call some people she knew from my old work to check on me, which threw me for a loop. She refused to name the people she was going to call or take any references from me personally...not entirely sure how legal that is, but it is definitely impractical and fairly rude in retrospect. Never heard back after the interview, so I can only assume of the 150+ people at my old workplace, she talked to someone who barely knew I was there.
