      Backend Developer Interview

      Apr 18, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at komoot in Apr 2018

      Interview

Submit your CV for review on their careers page. After "screening" you will be invited to complete a coding challenge. This challenge allows you to implement a solution using whatever tech stack you are comfortable with. You can then submit that solution for review. It was at this stage I failed due to me not having the required commercial experience in my resume. This was disappointing because it shows they didn't bother to check my CV first before allowing me to waste days of my personal time on a coding challenge. I realise this is a startup and processes are not concrete, but please don't let candidates waste their time on tasks that were going to be ignored anyway,

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at komoot in May 2020

      Interview

I would describe the process as transparent, thorough and thoughtful. Due to komoot sharing their whole recruitment process on their own page, nothing during this process took me by surprise. I went through an initial screening, were given an assignemnt and upon completion were invited to two interviews before a final decision meeting to settle any final questions. I spent around 6 hours on the assignment, and it created a good fundament for a conversation in the first interview. My impression is that they properly evaluate the solution that is submitted, which feels good. We had good conversations on a range of topics during both interviews.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

The assignment was based around integrating with an AWS SNS topic, processing and doing something with the data, and then creating an output that was measured by their servers.

      Question 2

At a later interview a more high-level solution to a high-user count problem was the topic.
