      User Experience Designer Interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at mabl (Boston, MA) in Sep 2019

      Interview

I initially applied some time ago, and then eventually was referred by a former coworker which kickstarted their engagement with me. I engaged in a 30 minute phone interview with their UX Designer. It was a good experience. Very friendly, professional and honest. This was followed by a 3.5 hour interview on-site with their UX Designer, 4 software engineers, a Manager, and co-founder. It was 3 separate interviews (b2b2b), each with multiple people. The first two hours consisted of mild conversation around process, some examples of work, etc. It did feel a bit disengaged, or that there was a sense of disinterest from the get go. There was a lack of follow up questions, repeating questions, lack of eye contact from folks, and a general quiet tone in the room. The third and final hour, however, was very engaging as the conversations and exercises revolved around identifying motivations and seemingly how work crossed over with culture and perspective. This hour was one of my favorite hours in an interview I've had in years (as odd as that sounds). Overall, it was a good experience. They're good people, even if quiet. I learned what I wanted to about the opportunity. They also provided feedback on the interview and my presentation which is always appreciated.
