Position Summary
We are seeking a Certified Medical Coder with specialized experience in anesthesiology coding to join our dynamic billing and coding team. This role is critical to ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely coding of anesthesia services provided in both acute care hospital settings and ambulatory surgery centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze anesthesia medical records to assign appropriate CPT, ICD-10, and ASA codes
- Ensure coding compliance with CMS guidelines, NCCI edits, and payer-specific policies
- Collaborate with anesthesiologists and clinical staff to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anesthesia coding rules, modifiers (e.g., QS, QX, QZ), and time-based billing protocols
- Monitor coding productivity and accuracy to meet internal benchmarks and external audit standards
- Assist in denial management and provide coding support for appeals and payer audits
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with regulatory updates and best practices
Qualifications
- Certification: CPC, COC, or CCS-P (AAPC or AHIMA) – Preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience in anesthesia coding – Preferred
- Strong understanding of ASA crosswalk, time units, and concurrency rules
- Experience with acute care hospital and ASC coding workflows
- Proficiency in EMR and coding software (e.g., Epic, PHYGenesis)
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
