We’re looking for several great Superintendents to join our team and support our Field Operations team!

Non-union superintendents may be salaried and perform only supervisory roles. Union carpenters who qualify for superintendent positions may self-perform a relatively small portion of our overall project scopes, while managing and directing subcontractors and journeyman carpenters.
• Most of our Superintendents are represented by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC). Superintendents are not required to join UBC if not already enrolled, but are not allowed to directly perform construction work if not a member. We have a mix of both union and non-union superintendents and have positions available for both.

Superintendent Job Description

Viking’s Construction Superintendents are the Company’s primary representatives in the field. They are responsible for ensuring the project is constructed in the field with safety, schedule, quality, and budget as the primary measures of performance. As Viking’s most visible representative in the field, our Superintendents are also directly responsible for propagating and encouraging Viking’s core values of People, Positive, Performance on every job that they manage.

Under the direction of the General Superintendent and in collaboration with the Project Manager(s) of the project(s) to which they are assigned, and in conjunction with Site Safety & Health Officer, Quality Control Manager, and Project Engineer, the Superintendent works to perform the following functions:

Quality Control (QC)

• WORKMANSHIP: Ensure that all work is consistently of the highest quality and constructed using high quality material that is not damaged or defective. Immediately direct the removal and recompletion of any work that does not meet the quality standard established by Viking and project specification.
• QC PLANS: Assist the Quality Control Manager, Project Manager and Project Engineer in the creation, distribution, maintenance, updating, and implementation of Design and Construction Quality Control Plans.
• SUBMITTAL REVIEW: Assist the Quality Control Manager in ensuring that the Quality Control system as it relates to submittals is functioning appropriately and that the final product strictly complies with contract requirements.
• PERMITS: Working in tandem with the Project Manager, direct and manage processes to apply for, receive, track, maintain, post, and ensure successful closure of all Permits, including Government Permits such as Building Permits, Street Closure Permits, Right of Way Permits, and Trade Permits, as well as OwnerPermits such as Utility Shutdown Requests, Confined Space Entry Permits, Above-Ceiling Work Permits. This work should also be completed in conjunction with theQuality Control Manager, Site Safety & Health Officer, and Project Engineer in accordance with the roles and responsibilities outlined at the outset of each project.
• PUNCH LISTS & REWORK: In conjunction with the Quality Control Manager and Project Engineer, direct the creation, assignment, tracking, approval, and closeout of all punch list and rework items. Ensure determination of root cause for all punch list and rework items through root cause analysis process. Ensure resulting lessons learned are properly communicated to the Project Manager who will manage their incorporation into Viking processes as part of the firm’s ContinuousImprovement Process (CIP).
• INSPECTIONS & TESTING: Work with the Quality Control Manager to schedule, coordinate, record, report, and close out all inspections and testing.
• QUALITY CONTROL MANAGER: In many instances Viking’s Superintendents also fill the role of Quality Control Manager on the project to which they are assigned. Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

• EHS PROJECT EXECUTION PLANS (PEPS): Assist the Project Engineer and Site Safety & Health Officer with the creation, distribution, maintenance, updating, and implementation of EHS Project Execution Plans (PEPs) including, but not limited to: Site Specific Safety & Health Plans, Accident Prevention Plans, InfectionControl Risk Assessments (ICRAs) and Proactive Construction Risk Assessments(PCRA), task-specific plans (Fall Protection Plans, Crane Lift Plans, etc.), ActivityHazard Analysis.
• HAZARD COMMUNICATION: Assist the Project Engineer and Site Safety & Health Officer with the collection, organization, and effective use of required Safety DataSheets (SDS) and the corresponding Hazard Communication Inventory.
• EHS DOCUMENTATION: Assist the Project Engineer and Site Safety & Health Officer with the creation, distribution, collection, and storage of all EHS related project documentation, including but not limited to: EHS plan components, activity hazard analysis, hazard communication inventory and SDS, inspection records, orientation records, training records, meeting records, disciplinary records, incident/accident/near miss records, investigation records, and waste tracking reports.
• AUDITING/COMPLIANCE: Assist Viking’s EHS initiatives by ensuring onsite compliance through EHS inspections that become part of the project record.

Position-Specific Requirements & Conditions

• ADMINISTRATIVE CAPABILITY & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: The following requirements constitute the basic capability and experience requirements requirements associated with the Superintendent position. o Proven experience as a commercial Superintendent (minimum 3 years experience) o Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record o Ability to pass Federal background check o Ability to work independently o An ability and passion for working collaboratively o Demonstrating experience in leading and mentoring in project tasks o In-depth knowledge and understanding of construction procedures and trades o Outstanding verbal and written communication and negotiation skills o Ability to write clear and professional reports and correspondence, including emails o Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, clients, or consultants o Ability to calculate figures and amounts and apply basic algebra and geometry o Ability to interpret Viking’s policies o Knowledge in MS Office, GSuite, Bluebeam, Procore, and/or pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level

• COMPENSATION: For all Working Superintendents (individuals who perform carpentry work as well as the responsibilities described in this document) this position is an hourly position, subject to representation by the Union Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC). Viking is a Signatory Contractor, and all employee Carpenters must be UBC members. Viking can assist any potential/future union members with entry to the union. It is a simple and easy process. Our local council is the North Coast States Carpenters Union, which is affiliated with the UBC. Compensation is defined by the current “Schedule A” of the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, Western & Central Addendum and the Viking Engineering + Construction hire date. Viking reserves the right to afford those individuals whose experience or capability is exceptional pay “above scale” in accordance with the results of their annual evaluation. “Walking Superintendents”, those Superintendents that do no physical work which is covered under Viking's Union Labor Agreements, are not required to be represented by the UBC, but are compensated at a comparable rate and in accordance with the results of their annual evaluation.
