The Project controls in construction involve the processes and procedures used to manage a project’s time, cost, and quality. In essence, project controls act as the project’s “navigational system”, providing the project manager with the information needed to keep the project on course, within budget, and on schedule.
Planning & Scheduling

Develop and maintain a realistic project schedule

Monitor progress against the schedule

Identify and manage potential delays

Forecast Completion dates
Cost Management

Develop and manage project budgets

Track project expenditures and performance

Measure variances from the budget

Forecast project costs
Risk Management

Identify potential risks and issues
-
Assess the impact of risks

Develop and implement mitigation plans

Monitor and report on risks throughout the project lifecycle
Change Management

Establish processes for managing scope changes
-
Evaluate the impact of changes on the project schedule and budget
-
Ensure that changes are approved and documented
Reporting & Analysis

Develop and deliver project status reports
-
Analyze project data to identify trends and potential problems
-
Provide recommendations to the project team based on data analysis
Duties of Project Control Personnel
-
Data Gathering & Analysis: Collect and analyze project data related to schedule, cost, and risk.
-
Forecasting: Predict potential project outcomes based on current performance and trends.
-
Communication: Communicate project status and potential issues to the project team and stakeholders.
-
Document Control: Maintain accurate project documentation.
-
Performance Measurement: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs).
-
Quality Control: Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards.
-
Earned Value Management (EVM): If applicable, use EVM techniques to monitor project performance and provide insights into project status.
-
Must have experience in scheduling Software, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Project
-
Knowledge of commercial construction
-
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred
-
Experience with PowerBI, Power Apps, and Power Automate preferred but not required
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
-
Knowledge of NEC basics (not required, but helpful)

Understanding electrical scopes (conduit, switchgear, lighting, low voltage, etc.)
-
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field experience
