At South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty, Veterinary Technicians work alongside board-certified specialists in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Neurology, and Emergency & Critical Care while building advanced ER/CC skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Our newly expanded hospital features advanced technology including MRI, CT, endoscopy, and modern ICU monitoring equipment. Our facility offers services in neurology, internal medicine, surgery, and emergency and critical care. We have a team of board-certified specialists and emergency doctors committed to providing quality care to all patients. Our advanced diagnostic capabilities allow our doctors to diagnose and treat complicated medical conditions. These diagnostics include digital radiography, ultrasonography, MRI, and computed tomography (CT).

Job Summary:

The Learning and Development Coordinator plays a pivotal role in creating, executing, and overseeing training programs that enhance the knowledge, skills, and performance of our veterinary support staff. In this role, you will design targeted learning initiatives to ensure that all veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, client service representatives, and kennel attendants receive the training they need to succeed in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for building a culture of continuous learning and development that drives both individual career growth and operational excellence, all while ensuring compliance with industry standards and hospital policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in veterinary medicine, with a passion for learning and development and a commitment to improving patient care through staff education.

Responsibilities:

Training Program Implementation:

• Implement comprehensive training programs that align with hospital goals and improve the technical, clinical, and soft skills of all staff members, using existing Ethos resources where appropriate.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify training needs and create specialized programs for hospital staff.
• Ensure training materials, content, and delivery methods are up-to-date, engaging, and relevant to the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of an emergency and specialty veterinary hospital.

Onboarding & Orientation:

• Oversee the new employee onboarding process, ensuring a smooth transition for new hires into the organization.

Professional Development:

• Foster a culture of continuous improvement by providing ongoing professional development opportunities for staff at all levels.
• Coordinate with leadership to create career progression pathways and leadership development programs.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices in veterinary care and ensure training programs reflect these advancements.

Compliance & Accreditation:

• Ensure all training programs comply with veterinary industry regulations, hospital standards, and accreditation requirements.
• Maintain records of staff certifications, training completions, and professional development activities.

Performance Support & Coaching:

• Provide support to managers and team leaders in performance management, including identifying skills gaps and delivering coaching sessions for improved performance.
• Assist with creating personalized development plans for employees based on performance evaluations and feedback.
• Spend 75% of time on the hospital floor observing, training, and assisting staff, 25% administrative duties.

Learning Technologies & Tools:

• Leverage modern learning technologies to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of training programs.
• Regularly assess the effectiveness of training initiatives and adjust methods and materials based on feedback and outcomes.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration:

• Partner with clinical and management teams to ensure training programs meet the evolving needs of the hospital.
• Work with HR and recruitment teams to ensure training programs align with staffing needs and talent acquisition goals.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Veterinary Technician Certification (RVT) is required.

Experience:

• 3-5 years of experience working in a veterinary or healthcare environment.
• Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.

Skills & Competencies:

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple training initiatives simultaneously.
• Proficiency in learning management systems (LMS), Microsoft Office Suite, and other digital training tools.
• Ability to work collaboratively and foster strong relationships across teams.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Special Working Conditions:

• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, and move) up to 50 pounds. Lifting higher weights requires requesting assistance from another associate.
• Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision.
• Occasionally exposed to airborne particles and illness from patients and chemicals related to animal care and office equipment.
