Along with political science studies (Brokaw's degree), the school offers instruction to nearly 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students in a wide range of disciplines, from business and education to fine arts and health sciences. In fact, University of South Dakota students can choose from about 130 undergraduate programs and 55 graduate programs. The land-grant school, which was founded in 1862, is the home of the only law and medical schools in the state of South Dakota.
