Building Community Connections at Aurora West Virginia

On Thursday, April 24th, we hosted over 80 kids at our Virginia and West Virginia facilities for Take A Child to Work Day and Beyond. Employees children and relatives aged 8 to 17 spent the day engaging with employees in a variety of activities including flying hobby drones, experimenting with paper airplanes, shadowing their parents, and even taking part in an employee-designed escape room activity! The kids also got a behind-the-scenes look at some of our aircraft with a facility tour. Thank you to all the employees who made this day possible, and to all the kids who joined us for a day of fun and flight!...Show more

Aurora recently completed stability and control wind tunnel testing for its high-speed vertical lift concept. The concept uses embedded lift fan technology and a blended wing body design to provide the capability to cruise at up to 450 KTAS and take-off and land vertically on unprepared surfaces. The wind tunnel test, conducted at Boeing’s V/STOL wind tunnel, collected highly applicable data for understanding the low-speed handling of the vehicle’s unique profile, particularly at the critical transition from vertical to forward flight. The test marks a key milestone in the preliminary design phase of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Speed and Runway Independent Technologies (SPRINT) program.
