Mission Amida Care’s mission is to provide access to comprehensive care and coordinated services that facilitate positive health outcomes and the general well-being of our members.

Description Amida Care is a private, not-for‐profit health plan providing coverage and coordinated care to New York City Medicaid members with chronic conditions, including HIV/AIDS and behavioral health disorders. We serve Medicaid recipients who are living with HIV/AIDS or people who are homeless or of transgender experience (regardless of HIV status). People with complex health conditions need access to providers with specialized knowledge, and Amida Care offers a wide network of top health care providers. As the largest Medicaid special needs health plan (SNP) in New York State, Amida Care has improved health care quality and reduced costs by developing innovative care management programs.

Founded by six New York City community-based health organizations, Amida Care is a nonprofit health plan with strong roots in New York and a deep understanding of the health care needs of the local communities we serve. Each Amida Care member has a care team that provides extra attention and services to help them get and stay healthy. And, we specialize in care for people with multiple chronic conditions.

We achieve this by encouraging our members and their doctors to work together to make the best decision for the best care related to check-ups, specialists, hospitalization, home care, mental health, vision care and more. Amida Care providers handle all the special, complex needs of their patients – including providing complete health care and assistance with lifestyle challenges that may come up.

In his State of the Union address, President Trump pledged to end new HIV transmissions in the United States by 2030. He should start by looking at what is working right here, in his home state of New York, which is the national leader in the effort to end the HIV epidemic, thanks in no small part to Governor Andrew Cuomo's leadership. While we are encouraged by the President’s words at the #SOTU, and the renewed attention his administration plans to pay to this critical fight, actions speak far louder than words, and the Trump administration has taken a number of steps that have actively undercut efforts to end the HIV epidemic. If the President is serious about this commitment, he must follow New York’s lead: implement policies that address health disparities and promote access to health care. New York, once the epicenter of the AIDS epidemic, has made great strides towards reaching the goal of ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic by 2020, but there is still work to be done. Expanding eligibility to Medicaid Special Needs Health Plans (SNPs) for populations at higher risk for acquiring HIV can help reduce new infections and help us #EndAIDSNY2020. "SNPs were founded to provide specialized support to people living with HIV/AIDS and other complex health issues. One of the crucial services these plans have been able to provide is access to sexual health services, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), which are key to HIV prevention."
