Description Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) helps to develop the future leaders in Asia. The university offers academic programs in science, engineering, business and management, humanities, and social science. HKUST, which opened its doors in 1991, enrolls some 5,600 undergraduate and about 3,200 graduate students. The university also has more than 430 faculty members on its staff. In addition, the HKUST conducts research through some 40 research institutes and centers, including the Institute for the Environment, the Biotechnology Research Institute, and the Center for Cancer Research.
