Description Once a leading diversified media conglomerate, Landmark Communications is in the process of selling its portfolio of newspapers and other regional publications. Its flagship subsidiary, The Weather Channel Companies, was sold in 2008 to NBC Universal and a group of private equity firms, while its remaining properties were transferred to affiliate Landmark Media Enterprises. Those remaining properties up for sale include three major daily newspapers (The Virginian-Pilot, News & Record, and "The Roanoke Times") in North Carolina and Virginia, as well as more than 50 community papers in about 15 states. Landmark is owned by chairman Frank Batten Jr. and his family.
