Serviceplan – Why Work For Us?

Dr. Peter Haller and Rolf O. Stempel launched the agency in Munich in 1970 with two employees and one customer. Together, they believed in a new type of agency: interdisciplinary, holistic and integrated. The project's name expressed this: “Serviceplan”. The agency has been growing continuously since then.

Today more than 40 specialist companies are combined under the umbrella of the Serviceplan Group with five major agency brands:

  • Serviceplan, the original advertising hub
  • Mediaplus founded in 1983 for national and international media planning and purchasing
  • Facit founded in 1986 for market research
  • Plan.Net founded in 1997, the digital hub of the Group, covering the entire online segment
  • And since 2016, Serviceplan Solutions, the efficient communications solutions provider

The Serviceplan Group is a family with more than 35 global branches, worldwide focused on the full-spectrum “House of Communication” concept.

We are colorful – verbally, culturally and ethnically. But there is something more than our diversity that unites us, and, at the same time, sets us apart from the rest: we call it PACE. This makes us more than just a company: we are a community of values. We share one mindset with four elements: passion, achievement, curiosity and empathy. This enables us to surprise with new solutions instead of merely meeting expectations.

You are proud of what you do, because you give everything to be not only good, but even better. The daily experience of effectively applying yourself to your work drives you forward as well as appreciation for significant achievements. You are always on the lookout for new tasks, because they inspire you to new ways of thinking. You are fascinated by things others don't even perceive, but you spark them with your passion.

You are ambitious and reach your objectives, because your own goals are one with your clients’ goals. You are happy when you share success with others, as well as when experiencing your own personal achievements. You value everyday small successes as you strive to reach the overall target, always keeping your eyes on the big picture. And as soon as you have achieved a goal, you are already contributing to the next task. You take the initiative when a new opportunity presents itself and are open to everything.

You are dubious about ‘certainty’. You want to understand and are not satisfied with the first answers you get. You try things out and do not lose focus on your goals when things don’t work out on the first attempt. You ask questions to gain experience, and you inquire more deeply to gain understanding.

You have a sense of what hope and disappointment, what longing, doubts and appreciation do to people. You can imagine, what triggers you in other people and you communicate to be understood. You are aware of what people want to tell you, even if they don't say anything. Because your profession is communication and you know that communication is the art of listening with all of your senses.

The Serviceplan Group is the largest owner-managed and most diversified agency group in Europe. We are independent of investors and shareholders and because of this we are in the best possible position to make efficient decisions and market adjustments for our clients.

It is part of our daily mission to transcend boundaries that block communication. For the best solutions, we connect experts from different disciplines, cultures and markets. This boundless and enriching diversity enables us to make impossible dreams come true. Our agency model, House of Communication, enables us to provide all communication services under one roof. Rich exchanges of ideas between teams are frequent and easy because of the close proximity of our experts to each other.

We live in a world of constant change, particularly in terms of communications and media. Where people and brands look for new ways to exchange, we generate new opportunities: creative communication ideas, using the most advanced technologies. These ideas are implemented in a way that not only meets the requirements of how media is currently used, but also shapes it for the future. And ultimately the targeted placement in media and formats, in the further development and design of which we provide forward-looking, fresh impetus.

Our clients’ products and services are in demand worldwide. For successful global communications, we have to be aware of the cultural, social and economic characteristics of the relevant market and take them carefully into account. However, we should never lose sight of the big picture for any given brand. To do this, we have agencies and partners located directly in the respective markets to serve our clients. For specialized communication challenges, we can also rely on the vast know-how and expertise of our specialists all around the world.

The man you should know (next to our CEO, Florian Haller) is our Chief Creative Officer, Alex Schill.

At the Serviceplan Group, we are striving to make our business more sustainable - step-by-step, day by day– which is exactly what our clients, employees and the public can expect from us. It is their confidence in us which gives us the possibilities to move, shape and innovate. For the Serviceplan Group, sustainable business management has three dimensions: people, environment and finance.

We want our staff to be among the best in the business. We also want to keep them as long-term employees within Serviceplan Group companies. For this reason, staff satisfaction is very important for us, and we are striving to further enhance this in any way we can. Furthermore, we offer new members of staff open-ended employment contracts to reinforce our long-term commitment to them. In this way we aim to keep staff turnover below 15%.

Our staff objectives and motivation scheme ensures that customer and employee satisfaction are as well taken into account as business results, when measuring the overall performance of each individual.

Our training program is open to all employees to support their professional and personal development. The aim is to enable all members of our staff to have continual technical training, and to develop leadership qualities.

Half of our colleagues are female. At management level, we strive for a female quota of 40 percent. For part-time parents, we offer daycare facilities. We also work with external coaches who care for colleagues in stress or emergency situations with individual coaching and support. A special-purpose fund for employees in need is available, though rarely needed.

As a group, we support major and minor agency and department events and also hold a major joint event, where staff from all our locations and agencies, gather together to get to know each other a little better on a personal level, to network, to discuss new topics and trends, share experience and expertise. In addition, our sports program supports physical activity to maintain our employees' health.

We carry out pro bono campaigns each year, making funds and staff available to support good causes.

For us, environmental sustainability means the careful handling of natural resources and finding alternatives for waste. Travel is replaced, as far as possible, by video conferences, which save both time and resources. Our energy efficiency has continued to improve in recent years, with heat from district heating networks, dispensing with air-conditioning systems, using more energy-efficient lighting and hardware, as well as installing resource and energy saving central printer, scanner and fax stations. Where possible, we convert all our sites to green electricity.

We consider long-term planning and action to be important from a business point of view. Experience has taught us that adequate reserves ensure we retain the stability necessary in a volatile business environment. We wish to remain financially independent, with no contributions from financial investors. We already have an equity ratio of around 20%, which we shall gradually be increasing to 25%. Our partners are co-owners of the agency, as we are more interested in long-term business success rather than maximizing our short-term income.
