Valio boasts some 15 production plants in Finland, two in Estonia, and one in Belgium. Its subsidiary Finlandia Cheese imports and distributes Emmental cheese in the US. Seeking to lighten its load, Valio sold its ice cream business to Nestlé S.A. and its baby food operations to Numico (now part of Danone). Valio has teamed up with Tetra Pak to market its technology to produce lactose-free milk.
