The main business of Italgas is supplying natural gas to 5.6 million residential and business customers in more than 1,310 Italian municipalities, including Rome, Venice, and Naples. Through its utility subsidiaries, the company distributes 8.4 billion cu. meters of natural gas annually through more than 30,260 miles of pipeline. Italgas also has interests in water distribution, telecommunications, and international gas utility businesses. Founded in 1837, Italgas is an indirect subsidiary of Italian energy giant Eni. In 2009 Eni consolidated its gas divisions, and sold Italgas and Stogit (gas storage) to subsidiary Snam Rete Gas.
