Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (CEMIG) gets its power from water. CEMIG operates 57 power plants, most of which are hydroelectric, giving the utility a generating capacity of about 6,700 MW. The company distributes power to 6.2 million customers in the state of Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil. Its Infovias subsidiary provides cable TV, Internet, and other telecom services through a fiber-optic network laid out over CEMIG's transmission and distribution lines. Another subsidiary, Gasmig, supplies natural gas to commercial customers in Minas Gerais. CEMIG is a concessionaire of the state government, which owns 51% of the company; Southern Electric Brasil Participações Ltda. holds 33%.
