Description When you think of Italian cinema, do Fellini, Mastroianni, and de Sica come to mind? When they thought of the movies, surely Cinecittà Luce came to their minds. Started by Mussolini as a way to produce propaganda, Cinecittà (which is pronounced "chee-nay chee-tah" and translates to "cinema city") later became the center of a vibrant Italian film industry. The state-owned film production company is still active and offers production studios, editing and screening rooms, and a film restoration lab. Hollywood productions that have used Cinecittà's facilities include Miramax's Gangs of New York and Disney's Under the Tuscan Sun. Formerly Cinecittà Holding, the company merged with Instituto Luce in 2009.
