Description Most everything growing in these fields is green. And glittery. Gemfields Resources explores for, mines, and produces emeralds in Zambia and Madagascar. Its flagship property is Africa's largest emerald producer, the Kagem mine in Zambia (75% owned). The Kagem property produces about 14 million carats of emerald and beryl annually. The company also owns 100% of two other Zambian emerald mines and 50% of a Zambian amethyst mine, along with options to acquire ruby, sapphire, emerald, garnet, and tourmaline mines in Madagascar. In 2011 it acquired a majority in a ruby mine in the Cabo Delgado district in Mozambique. Investment firm Pallinghurst Resources, through subsidiary Rox Limited, owns some 63% of Gemfields.
