Description No, it's not a cheap place for older folks to stay whilst backpacking around the world. But Elderhostel does provide a wide variety of educational travel programs to adults ages 55 and over. The not-for-profit organization offers about 8,000 educational tours throughout the US and in more than 90 countries, from Africa to Antarctica. Programs are taught by professors, local scholars, and museum professionals and include lectures, field trips, and hands-on activities. Participants experience and learn about art, literature, music, nature, and traditional cultures. Elderhostel was founded in 1975 by world traveler and social activist Marty Knowlton and University of New Hampshire administrator David Bianco.
