Mission For more than 65 years, the people of ODEC have focused our energies on safely and affordably generating and transmitting power. Because we are owned by our 11 member cooperatives, every decision is made with the impact to the customer foremost in our consideration. Cooperative is more than what we are; it’s how we operate.
Description Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) is a not-for-profit power supply cooperative owned entirely by its 11 member distribution cooperatives. ODEC supplies its member-owners energy and demand requirements through a portfolio of resources including generating facilities, long and short-term physically-delivered forward power purchase contracts and spot market energy purchases. We also supply the transmission services necessary to deliver this power to our distribution cooperatives. Our 11 member-owners are located in three states (nine in VA and one each in DE and MD). The Members provide retail electric service to their more than 560,000 consumers (in terms of meters served), representing a population of approximately 1.4 million, located in 70 counties along 60,000 miles of distribution lines that range from the extended suburbs of Washington, D.C. south across VA to the NC border, and from the Atlantic shores of VA, DE, and MD to the Appalachian Mountains.
