Description Hampton University is composed of six schools (business, engineering and technology, liberal arts and education, nursing, pharmacy, and science), as well as a graduate college and a college of continuing education. It offers some 70 bachelor's degree programs, more than 25 master's degree programs, and doctoral or professional degrees in nursing, physics, atmospheric and planetary science, physical therapy, and pharmacy. The school has an enrollment of more than 5,700 students. A historically black college, Hampton was founded in 1868 during Reconstruction to educate newly-freed people with the support of the Freedman's Bureau, Northern philanthropists, and religious groups.
