Luca Technologies is looking to inject new life into old wells. A natural gas production company, Luca uses a proprietary gas production technology to stimulate native, subterranean microorganisms that live in and feed on organic matter and, in the process, create natural gas. Its technology involves injecting nutrients into wells to stimulate microorganisms and accelerate the conversion of resources like coal and oil into methane. Its technology can restore (and sustain long term) gas production in older, depleted wells. It currently operates in the Powder River Basin (PRB), a coal and natural gas-producing area that straddles Wyoming and Montana. Founded in 2003, Luca filed to go public in 2011.
