Description The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) of America is the chief center for the academic study of Judaica outside of Israel. Areas of study include ancient Judaism, Bible and ancient Semitic languages, Jewish history, Jewish philosophy, and Jewish women's studies. JTS was established in 1886 by two rabbis, Dr. Sabato Morais and Dr. H. Pereira Mendes, along with a group of prominent leaders from Sephardic congregations in Philadelphia and New York.
