Description Founded in 1938 as Lake Charles Junior College, McNeese State is one of eight schools in the University of Louisiana System. Its more than 8,000 enrolled students can choose from approximately 75 associate, bachelor, master, and specialist degree programs offered at colleges of business, education, engineering and technology, liberal arts, nursing and science, the Division of General and Basic Studies, and the Doré School of Graduate Studies. Its campus includes a 500-plus acre farm and nearly 1,600 acres of donated farm property for research, farming, and ranching. The university is named for Louisiana educator John McNeese.
