Description Humans, born too vulnerable to survive autonomously, depend on kindness for existence. As we develop, we enter a society where no one individual has the ability to go it alone - both practically or in terms of human connection. At the end of our lives, looking backwards, many preoccupations melt away but the legacy of care and love become focal. From cradle to grave, a thread of goodness holds our life together. Although we depend on the force of goodness, we also acclimatize to it and fail to honor its potency and beauty. How might we orient life more fully around the thread of goodness?

Of course, we also are wired for tribalism, fear and division and many times these buttons are easier to push - and we see the results of this around us. We see the effects of technology and organizations driven solely by shareholder financial return, ignoring negative effects on the social and physical environment.

We live during a historical inflection point. Our species, for the first time in our history, is having the real-time globally shared experience of a common challenge around health, economic survival and institutional trust and we need each other more than ever.

Humans have innovated for thousands of years. Systems of understanding and knowledge, including wisdom traditions of all stripes. Humans are also at heart technology users. Our survival has always been dependent on the clever use of tools and later technology. Science is a framework that is useful for sense making and building effective systems - everything from neuroscience, to physics to medicine. There are things that can help us understand and navigate life better - and we want to use them skillfully in the service of compassion and human connection.

Although technology is not typically associated with these themes – indeed, it can sow the seeds of division or alienation – we believe that enabling broader expressions of kindness and care depends on humane technology that harnesses and amplifies ordinary human goodness. The ripples and resonance of such goodness have great potency as happiness is not merely a trait of an individual but a property of groups. Activating goodness enlivens other beautiful qualities of the human heart. Connecting to other humans in the context of need and support allows us to mutually recognize the spark of the divine in each other. Benevolently honors goodness and the way that its ordinariness can become transcendent.
