Watermill Express is taking the bottled water industry by storm. The drive-up self-serve vendor of drinking water operates about 1,200 corporate and franchised locations. The 42-square-foot vendor units are located in retail parking lots in about ten US states, including California, Florida, Ohio, and Texas. Customers supply their own containers in one, three, and five gallon quantities and fill them up for an average price of 35 cents per gallon. Watermill Express was founded in 1984 by a couple in Brighton, Colorado who were unsatisfied with their local municipal drinking water, which had been declared unsafe for pregnant women and infants.
