Description Clear skies or not, Airports of Thailand (AOT) works hard to ensure effective operations for six of the country's largest airports. AOT manages the Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Phuket, Chaing Rai, and Suvarnabhumi airports (the balance of Thailand's 28 commercial airports falls under the country's Department of Aviation). All told, AOT airports accommodate an annual traffic flow of more than 50 million passengers, nearly 350,000 flights, and 1.25 million tons of cargo. "A Gateway to the Golden Land," Suvarnabhumi Airport (which opened in 2006) is an aviation hub in Asia, accommodating 45 million passengers and 3 million tons of cargo annually. AOT is a state enterprise under Thailand's Ministry of Transport.
