Description Starting out as a single cabin back in 1805, the City of Huntsville has come a long way. Situated in northern Alabama, it has a population of more than 160,000 and covers roughly 174 square miles. The city's economy is heavily dependent on the aerospace and military technology sectors and is home to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, US army post Redstone Arsenal, and Cummings Research Park (the second largest research park in the US). It also hosts many technology companies including network access company ADTRAN, computer graphics firm Intergraph, and software switch manufacturer Avocent. Huntsville's city government consists of its mayor and five city council members.
