Description Facebook. Myspace. Bebo? Call it the triad of free online social networking sites. Bebo is a popular social network in the UK, and has versions of the site in about a dozen countries in North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The service attracts an audience of younger Internet users who are in their early teens. All total, Bebo counts about 117 million registered members. Programmer Michael Birch co-founded the company with wife Xochi in 2005. It eventually attracted the attention of Web portal AOL, which purchased Bebo in 2008. Unable to attract more users in the US, in 2010 AOL sold Bebo to turnaround specialist Criterion Capital Partners.
