Emera is an emerging force in a new energy era. Subsidiary Nova Scotia Power Inc. (NSPI) generates, transmits, and distributes more than 95% of the electricity in Nova Scotia, where it serves 490,000 customers. Most of NSPI's 2,370 MW generating capacity is from fossil fuel, although it is bringing in more renewables to stay in compliance with carbon regulations. Its US electric utility operations include Bangor Hydro-Electric, which serves about 118,000 customers, and Maine Public Service (36,000 customers) and a power joint venture in California. Emera owns Brunswick Pipeline (which ships natural gas), and has minority stakes in Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline (natural gas) and in utilities in the Caribbean.
