Description Ice cream and other dairy products might be missing a major ingredient without Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA). The dairy cooperative serves more than 2,300 farmers in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin and produces a variety of milk products (such as sweetened condensed, instant nonfat, and dried buttermilk), cream, cheese, butter, and ice-cream mixes. With no consumer brands or products, MMPA sells its products as ingredients to food manufacturers who make baby formulas, candy, ice cream, and yogurt. The co-op, founded in 1916, operates two Michigan plants and provides its farmer-members with product quality incentives, testing, and customized blending, as well as protection against loss from disaster.
